The Standard Visitor visa is for temporary visits, usually up to six months. It is useful for tourism, meeting family, attending business meetings, short courses and medical visits, but it is not a back door to work, live or study long-term in the UK.

Each stay is usually limited to six months, even if the visa itself is valid for two, five or ten years. The border officer can still ask about your purpose, address and return plan, so the application and travel answers should match.
A strong visitor application explains who is paying, why the visit is affordable and why you will leave on time. Useful evidence can include employment or business records, bank statements with regular activity, family commitments, property or tenancy records, and an invitation letter if you are visiting someone. The documents should support the facts in the form, not overwhelm the officer with unrelated paperwork.
Common problems include unclear trip purpose, finances that do not match declared income, large unexplained deposits, weak evidence of ties to home, and application details that conflict with previous travel history. A refusal is not solved by reapplying immediately with the same evidence; first identify the exact concern and fix that part of the application honestly.
